1) Twinkle lights hung from the ceiling and around doorways are perfect when space is at a premium!

2) No room for a tree? A little tabletop vignette with candles and greenery is appropriately festive.

3) Mistletoe is a Christmas classic that doesn’t take up any space at all. All you need is a doorway (or ceiling).

4) The idea of leaning a wreath on a bar cart (or bookcase or dresser) is super simple and easy! No hanging required.

5) If having a tree is an absolute necessity, try a compact tabletop version.

6) If even a tabletop tree is out of the question, look even littler. Tree branches in vases on a tabletop or windowsill are a stylish solution.

7) With slightly larger branches, you can even add ornaments.

8) Drape a garland around a mirror or doorway.

9) If you’ve got a chandelier, it could be the perfect spot for a little holiday greenery.

10) And finally, if you haven’t got a chandelier at all — why not just hang something from the ceiling? Think of it as a sort of upside-down Christmas tree.

We hope that these 10 simple ideas help your home decorating process this Holiday season!

Top 5 Things to Remember When Hosting a Holiday Party

Now that some major Holidays are on the horizon, it’s time to begin planning for the years most festive celebrations. Whether you are having an intimate romantic dinner for two — or a 20 person cocktail party — it’s always nice to be prepared.

Even if you must prepare a checklist to ensure you have everything you need…it will be more than helpful.

51b5bfdf74c5b65d6b000a84._w.540_s.fit_

1. Gather together your flatware, linens, candlesticks and place settings. Make sure you have everything washed, cleaned — and most of all — the right amount for all your guests (don’t forget some extras for multiple courses or dropped spoons!).

2. Place cards should always be considered when you’re hosting a large dinner party of mixed crowds. You would hate for your Aunt Helen to mistake your Boss for your best friend’s husband, right? It’s a subtle way to introduce yourself and often make good conversation starters.

3. A centerpiece to any table should be full of color, grab the attention of the room and most of all should be festive. I love this squash centerpiece above, with the clean white dishes and linens. Very elegant, classic and will warm up the table immediately!

4. When considering which beverages to serve, consider that not everyone prefers wine with dinner. Whether you’re serving a cabernet or a pinot grigio, it might be helpful to have champagne, a bottle of vodka or gin and some beer handy. For the underage , make sure you to supply sodas, juices, and when I was a kid I always did love a fancy Shirley Temple. Bottled water both flat and sparkling go nicely with orange and lime slices. Also consider these few things when preparing your menu; are there any vegetarian or vegan guests? Do any of your guest have food allergies? Will anyone need a kosher prepared meal? We don’t want anyone left offended, sick or starving at your party.

5. Breaking out a nice dinner set for special occasions always feels a bit more formal. It doesn’t have to be your great grandparents’ china, but splurging on some “special” plates and glasses is worth it. Plus, do you want to serve your special holiday roast on the same plate you cook Monday’s spaghetti on every week?

Hopefully these tips will ease the stress of hosting the next holiday party at your home!

The Kangaroostaurant is a cookery on wheels. It travels around Appleton serving up all types of delicious food out of its mobile kitchen. The summer of 2011 was the Kangaroostaurant’s first appearance on the streets of Appleton and it has been serving up delicious, hot, and inexpensive food ever since. Many challenges had to be over come by the owners to even get this rig off the ground but it is a great feature to have roaming around the streets of the greater Appleton area.

The ever changing menu is just one of the great features of the Kangaroostaurant. The weeks’ menu and schedule can be found on the website: kangaroostaraunt.com. One of the reasons that the menu is ever changing is the fact that the Kangaroostaurant supports local farmers and growers to insure the freshest ingredients and try to help support other small businesses like themselves. Their local suppliers include: Red Barn Family Farms,Olden Produce, Carlena Farms , Venneford Farm Country Meats , Renard’s European Bakeshop, Arthur Bay Cheese Company, Jimmy J’s Razor Back Rib Sauce, Trust Local Foods, Rustic Kitchens , and Nami Moon Farms.

The Kangaroostaurant also buys a bulk of its ingredients from the Appleton Farmers Market. The Kangaroostaurant is a great local attraction that is proud to call Appleton home. Plans are in store to expand by setting up a larger home base with a sit in restaurant serving up the great dishes that the mobile unit has been doing for the past year!

Appleton Building for Kids Children’s Parade

This year marks the fourth year of the Children’s Parade in downtown Appleton! This great family fun event is held just minutes from Appleton’s newest apartment community, Latitude 44. On Wednesday, July 25th we invite all families to take part in this great community event!

The Children’s Parade now in its fourth year of existence was just an idea that Dean Hunt the starter of the Downtown Appleton Farm Market, had one day while watching all the families enjoy his event downtown. Hunt, a native of Oshkosh, had been in a similar event as a child and thought that the children of Appleton could benefit from a parade that starred them! Jennifer Stephany, executive director of Appleton Downtown Inc. got word of his idea and the parade was born.

For the last four years the children of the Appleton community and Building for Kids have enjoyed the parade. In the first year there were approximately 500 participants and guests, but this year over 5,000 are expected! This parade gives the children of the community an opportunity to get creative and become stars of a parade. Many of the participants eagerly await the Children’s parade each year and spend hours making their own costumes! This is a great family fun event that the whole community benefits from. Last year the parade raised about $14,000 for the Building for Kids, primarily through sponsors such as Children’s Hospital and ThedaCare. This event is a way to build creativity, imagination and confidence in the youths of the Appleton area.

This year’s Appleton Building for Kids Children’s Parade will be held on July 25th at 6:00pm. The parade route starts at Houdini Plaza on downtown College Avenue and ends with a reception for families at City Park. Any child 12 & under is welcome to join in the parade, participating in the event is free but registration is required!  Call 734-3226 for more information or visit: www.buildingforkids.org.
