This year marks the fourth year of the Children’s Parade in downtown Appleton! This great family fun event is held just minutes from Appleton’s newest apartment community, Latitude 44. On Wednesday, July 25th we invite all families to take part in this great community event!
The Children’s Parade now in its fourth year of existence was just an idea that Dean Hunt the starter of the Downtown Appleton Farm Market, had one day while watching all the families enjoy his event downtown. Hunt, a native of Oshkosh, had been in a similar event as a child and thought that the children of Appleton could benefit from a parade that starred them! Jennifer Stephany, executive director of Appleton Downtown Inc. got word of his idea and the parade was born.
For the last four years the children of the Appleton community and Building for Kids have enjoyed the parade. In the first year there were approximately 500 participants and guests, but this year over 5,000 are expected! This parade gives the children of the community an opportunity to get creative and become stars of a parade. Many of the participants eagerly await the Children’s parade each year and spend hours making their own costumes! This is a great family fun event that the whole community benefits from. Last year the parade raised about $14,000 for the Building for Kids, primarily through sponsors such as Children’s Hospital and ThedaCare. This event is a way to build creativity, imagination and confidence in the youths of the Appleton area.
This year’s Appleton Building for Kids Children’s Parade will be held on July 25th at 6:00pm. The parade route starts at Houdini Plaza on downtown College Avenue and ends with a reception for families at City Park. Any child 12 & under is welcome to join in the parade, participating in the event is free but registration is required! Call 734-3226 for more information or visit: www.buildingforkids.org.
